Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 31, 2026
In short: we collect what’s needed to run your Velos (family trees), we show it only to the people your settings allow, we never sell it or use it for ads, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
1. Who we are
Kutumb Velo (kutumbvelo.com) is run by Rahivana (“Rahivana”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and the choices you have. Questions? Email support@kutumbvelo.com.
2. Information we collect
When you create an account:
- Your email address, first and last name, date of birth and sex.
- If you sign in with Google: your Google account’s name, email address and an account ID. We never see your Google password.
When you build or join a Velo:
- What you and other members add about family members: names, sex, dates and places of birth and death, relationships, notes and, later, photos.
- Who added or changed each entry and when, so changes can be reviewed and undone.
- Velo memberships and roles, invitations you send or receive, and connection requests.
Information about other people. Velos naturally include information about relatives, some of whom are living and some of whom may be children. Members may only add information they have the right to share (see our Terms of Service). Anyone can ask us to correct or remove information about themselves or their child (section 8).
Technical information:
- A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in, plus two short-lived cookies used only while you sign in with Google.
- Sign-in codes, which are stored only in scrambled form and stop working after 10 minutes.
- Basic server logs (such as IP addresses, times and error messages), kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting.
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
3. How we use it
- To run Kutumb Velo: sign you in, show and save your Velos, and apply the roles and visibility settings that you and Velo owners choose.
- To send the emails the service needs: sign-in codes, invitations, connection requests and important account notices.
- To keep the service safe: preventing abuse, investigating problems and enforcing our Terms.
- To improve the service and to meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to train artificial intelligence models.
4. Who can see your information
- Velo members see a Velo’s contents according to their role. For living people, other members see their age; only the Velo’s Owner and Co-owners see the full date of birth.
- Other Kutumb Velo users may find your name (and photo, if you allow it) in search, depending on your search visibility setting. Your date of birth is never shown in search.
- Service providers that run parts of the service for us, under their own privacy and security commitments: Google Cloud (hosting, database and backups, in the United States), Google (if you choose Google sign-in) and SMTP2GO (sending email).
- The law: we may share information if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or Rahivana.
- A change of ownership: if Kutumb Velo is merged, sold or transferred, your information may move with it, and this policy will continue to apply to it.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account information is kept while your account is open.
- Velo content is kept while the Velo exists. If you delete your account, people you added to other members’ Velos stay in those Velos, shown as added by “a former member”.
- Database backups are kept for up to 30 days, then deleted automatically.
6. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), scrambled sign-in codes, role-based access checks on our servers and regular backups. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep access to your email account safe; it is the key to your Kutumb Velo account.
7. Children
You must be at least 13 to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Velos may include information about children that family members add. A parent or guardian can ask us to remove information about their child at any time.
8. Your choices and rights
- Update your profile at any time, and choose who can find you in search.
- Ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account.
- Ask for information about you (or your child) in someone else’s Velo to be corrected or removed.
Email support@kutumbvelo.com from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example California or the European Union), you may have additional rights under local law; we honor these requests for everyone.
9. Where your information is stored
Kutumb Velo is hosted in the United States. If you use it from another country, your information is transferred to and stored in the United States.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will tell you by email or with a notice on the site before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
